In SUSCAPE we focus primarily on the development of quantitative tools based on mathematical programming to address the design and planning of sustainable processes. Our approach relies on the combined use of multi-criteria mixed-integer modeling techniques and Life Cycle Assessment principles, a framework that enables us to systematize the identification of process alternatives leading to environmental savings. Our major areas of study include Sustainability, Process Engineering, Buildings and Energy Efficiency, and Mathematical Programming.

Promoció d’accions i projectes adreçats a persones-clau (res-ponsables de polítiques públiques, actors, multiplicadors, xarxes de pau) amb vocació transformadora, com la promoció d’agendes de pau i la incor-poració de valors i continguts de l’educació per la pau i la Justícia Global a l’educació formal i informal.

Evolutionary biology aims at studying the processes and mechanisms generating biodiversity. After the Human Genome project, the description and comprehension of biodiversity is one of the most important scientific challenges of the XXI century, and coping to this challenge requires the methods and concepts of evolutionary biology. In particular, we need to understand the genetic basis of the difference among species (divergence) as well as within every species (variation, polymorphism), paying special attention at how differences are fixed and how are distributed, transmitted, maintained and how they interact with the environment. The description of genomes and the understanding of genomic differences in organisms are of paramount importance to understand the basic mechanisms of life and to place biodiversity into a robust evolutionary frame. The general objective of the IBE is to work on these contexts using all the available new tools, experimental and computational, to understand the basic functioning of life, to describe and put in context their diversity, to unveil the mechanisms generating biological innovations and evolutionary changes and, finally, to preserve biodiversity and to promote its use in a sustainable way. In particular, the basis of the IBE, and its main peculiarity, is the capacity to face biodiversity studies describing genomic and functional evolution at any observational scale: molecular, biochemical, physiological or morphological. The IBE aims at becoming an international reference in these subjects. The Institute of Evolutionary Biology (Institut de Biologia Evolutiva, IBE) is joint center of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the University Pompeu Fabra.

LUNG CANCER Through digital awareness campaigns,the foundation concentrates its efforts to educate the public about lung cancer, a disease unjustifiably stigmatized by cigarette smoking. AT-RISK YOUTH rograms, the foundation provides atrisk youth with an education and tools to navigate their daily life, both physically and emotionally, as they mature into adulthood. INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED YOUTH Ricky as ambassador of Unified Basketball, a Special Olympic tournament that join intellectually disabled and abled youth, supports the normalization of intellectually disabled youth and their access to sports. Message from Ricky :" Since I started playing basketball, I have always thought about how to leverage professional sports to help others and how to have an impact on the greater community. I had always tossed around the idea of starting a foundation until the decision to act became clear. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2012. The following four years were some of my hardest. In one of my last conversations with my mom, I promised her that I would do everything in my power to help others. Vulnerable children and youth is one of my focuses since I feel strongly about helping them grow and integrate into society in a healthy manner.
