Creda Centre De Recerca En Economia I Desenvolupament Agroalimentari
CREDA (the Center for Agro-Food Research and Development) is a research foundation supported by two institutions: Catalonia Polytechnic University (UPC) and the Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA). CREDA-UPC-IRTA was born out of the necessity for formalizing a public Catalan research and development body in the agro-food sector, unifying and strengthening R+D capabilities and making these capabilities available to government as well as public and private sectors. CREDA is a dynamic and reliable center comprised of a diverse and talented team of researchers, consultants, and technicians with backgrounds spanning economics, agricultural and forestry engineering, sociology, and environmental science. It is quickly becoming a reference center for agro-food economy and rural development both in Catalonia and internationally. Central themes of the research being conducted at CREDA include: • Assessment of consumer preferences and consumer behavior towards agricultural products • Development and improvement of agriculture and livestock competitiveness • Sustainability of food systems from a systemic perspective • Sustainable and innovative use of natural resources • Livelihood strategies and preferences of rural producers in the face of global change • Enhanced understanding of the numerous and complex interactions between society and the local territory CREDA operates at the crossroads of the public and private sectors, perfectly situated to act as a reliable agent in the transfer of relevant and accurate scientific information which will assist actors at all nodes of food value chains in making informed decisions.

Faico - Innovation And Technology Center
FAICO, Fundación Andaluza de Imagen, Color y Óptica es un centro de innovación y tecnología especializado en tecnologías ópticas y su transferencia al sector industrial. Se crea en 2003 como fundación sin ánimo de lucro a iniciativa de la entonces Consejería de Innovación y de diversas asociaciones industriales andaluzas. FAICO tiene la calificación oficial de Centro de Innovación y Tecnología - CIT según el Registro de Agentes del Sistema Andaluz del Conocimiento. Está declarado de interés público y es Agente Tecnológico de Andalucía. Asimismo, tiene la calificación de CAIT (Centro de Apoyo a la Innovación Tecnológica) del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN), siendo el único en Andalucía que cuenta actualmente con dicha calificación. Las actuaciones de la Fundación se centran en la investigación, el desarrollo tecnológico y la innovación en el ámbito de la imagen, el color, la óptica, la luz, el diseño y las tecnologías de la información, la edición y la comunicación. FAICO cuenta con tres líneas principales de trabajo: • Automatización y visión artificial. • Tecnologías de la industria gráfica • Área de tecnologías 3D: diseño CAD/CAM/CAE, digitalización y prototipado.

Grial Research Group
The Research GRoup on InterAction and eLearning (GRIAL) at the University of Salamanca emerged in 2006 as a result of the union of three distinct research areas. Such research fields (Computer Engineering, Education and Communication Theory) find in this context a remarkable complementarity and produce, as a consequence of their respective synergies, seven lines of research closely related in a transversal way. These areas are Interactive Learning Systems, Learning Technologies, Web Engineering and Software Architecture, Online Learning Methodology, Quality and Evaluation in Education, Communication Theory and Strategic Knowledge and Technology Management. These lines of research give rise to the development of a large number of research projects, both national and international. The most relevant of them are described in these pages. Finally, GRIAL carries out excellent transfer activities whose main lines are illustrated in the last paragraph of this article. Applied Electronics Research Team Apert
APERT collaborates in R+D projects financed by public calls of the different administrations and conducts R+D projects under contract for companies or institutions within the scope of the research lines of the group. The main research activities are focused on Digital Electronics for Networking (SoC, FPGA) and Power Electronics for Energy Conversion. APERT was founded in 2002 by a group of researchers of the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao, Spain) and it is located in the Faculty of Engineering. As a result of this research activity, APERT has participated in more than 100 Research Projects (competitive public calls and private funded) and it has contributed with more than 100 Scientific Articles, 7 patents, 80 books and 25 PhD Thesis.

Fundacion Nueva Cultura Del Agua Fnca, New Water Culture Foundation
The FNCA is an Iberian (Spain and Portugal) non-profit organization composed by over 200 outstanding members from academia, research institutions, public administration, private sector, stakeholders and citizens, aiming at promoting a change towards a more sustainable water management and a new water culture. The FNCA promotes a more comprehensive water analysis and understanding, the application of inter and trans-disciplinary approaches, the integration of ecological, economic, social and cultural dimensions, an improved water governance and a wide cross-collaboration among researchers, stakeholders, decision-makers and the public opinion. The FNCA members jointly provides a wide research experience coming from all related scientific and technical disciplines. The FNCA applies systemic perspectives to the assessment and sustainable management of water socio-ecological systems, linking natural and social sciences, as well as technological and cultural heritage issues. It is member of the World Water Council, of the Aquanet Europe Foundation and of the Euro-Mediterranean Foundation “Anna Lindh” for the Dialogue among Cultures. It also takes part in the International Network GOBACIT. The FNCA has organized since 1998 the bi-annual Iberian Congress on Water Planing and Management, with the collaboration of more than fifty universities and research institutions from Spain and Portugal. Moreover, it has co-organized the I Latin-American Meeting for a New Water Culture (Fortaleza, Brazil, 2005), with more than 500 participants. The FNCA also promoted the European Declaration for a New Water Culture, signed in 2005 by 100 water experts from 20 European countries, with the attendance of 400 experts. Since 2006 it carries out an ongoing assessment of the Spanish water policy at the national and river-basin scales, with a special emphasis on the WFD implementation process in Spain.

Lemur Research Group
LEMUR is a multidisciplinary research team with researchers belonging to different knowledge areas: Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, and Automation and Control Engineering. The strength is based on looking for synergies and knowledge integration among team members in order to apply for bigger and complex research projects. Our vision is to integrate in a laboratory an environment for testing of small scale distributed energy systems and their integration into the electrical grid. For the study and analysis, a four-level approach is proposed-> Development of generation systems and power converters for the injection of electrical energy into the grid-> Development of energy storage systems for the compensation of transient demands at the electrical grid-> Development of coordinated control strategies for all the small scale generators installed at the grid-> Study of new economic and infrastructure models relying on the distributed generation. Our research lines include: 1 - Analysis and Design of power converter topologies for energy storage: Design of power electronics converters with an emphasis of multiport topologies for energy storage applications. 2 - Dynamic Analysis and Control of power converters for distributed resources: High dynamic performance of power converters and microgrids by advanced control systems. 3 - Power flow analysis for hybrid DC/AC grids with high penetration of distributed resources: Impact of the integration of distributed resources in the electrical grid. 4 - Energy demand analysis and visualization: Analytic tools and visualization strategies for energy planning. 5 - Industrial applications and knowledge transfer. We collaborate in different research projects both nationally and internationally with companies, universities, and research institutions.
