Malawi Bureau Of Standards
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 51:02) of the Laws of Malawi (Amended as Act No 14 of 2012), with a mandate to promote metrology, standardization and quality assurance of commodities and of the manufacture, production, processing or treatment thereof; and further to provide for matters incidental to, or connected with standardization. The MBS is governed by a Board of Directors, the MBS Board, which is appointed by Government. It is responsible for managing the operations of the MBS. The Director General is the Chief Executive Officer responsible for the day-to-day administration of the MBS within the broad guidelines formulated by the MBS Board. What We Do The functions of the MBS are undertaken by five departments as follows: Standards Development Department – Responsible for the development of Malawi standards and the dissemination of standards and standards related information. Quality Assurance Services Department – Responsible for the implementation of standards through inspection and certification services. Testing Services Department – Provides testing services for product certification services as well as testing of client samples from the industry and the general public. Metrology Services Department – Provides inspection and verification of weighing and measuring instruments, and calibration services. Finance and Administration Department – Responsible for the financial and administrative matters. Blantyre Water Board
Blantyre Water Board is a parastatal organization established and reconstituted under the Malawi Water Works Act No. 17 of 1995 to supply potable water for commercial, industrial, institutional and domestic use in the supply area of Blantyre City and surrounding areas. Its mission is to provide reliable and affordable water supply services to customers whilst effectively contributing to the development of the national economy and sustenance of the environment. BWB extracts its water from Shire River (an outlet of Lake Malawi) at Walker’s Ferry about 40 kilometres away and 800m below Blantyre City. As BWB’s main treatment plant, it provides water to about 85% of Blantyre City’s population of 1.4 million for domestic, institutional, commercial and industrial purposes from a daily production of litres. BWB also has Mudi Treatment Works which produces about litres daily. Blantyre Water Board supplies water to Blantyre City and other surrounding areas that include Bvumbwe, Chileka, Lunzu, Chiradzulu, Limbe and Mapanga. BWB has four broad categories of customers namely; domestic, industrial, institutional and commercial customers. Currently BWB has about customers. BWB registers an average of 87 connections every month. Currently, there are four physical pay-points currently in use and these are; Chichiri Shopping Mall opposite PUMA Filling Station, Limbe Zone Offices in Limbe (within CEAR Offices), Peoples Supermarket in Blantyre and Kameza Roundabout. Customers can also pay their bills through National Bank of Malawi,First Merchant Bank,NBS Bank, Ecobank and Standard Bank.

Electricity Generation Company Malawi Ltd Egenco
The Government of Malawi (GoM) through the Power Sector Reform Programme established an electricity power generating company; the Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Ltd (EGENCO). EGENCO was incorporated on 9th September 2016 as a public company under the Companies Act (Cap 46:03) wholly owned by the Government of Malawi and started its full operations on 1st January 2017. EGENCO is mandated to generate and sell electricity. Presently, EGENCO is the main generator of electricity in Malawi, mainly from hydro power generation facilities with a total capacity of 42.2 MW.

Malawi Water And Sanitation Project-1
The Government of Malawi is implementing the Malawi Water and Sanitation Project that is expected to increase the number of households accessing potable water in and around Blantyre by 30% and reducing water loses, one of the major causes of water scarcity in the city by the year 2029. The K250billion ($148.5m) will increase access to improved water and safely managed sanitation services in the City of Blantyre through rehabilitation and upgrading of water treatment plants, distribution and connection networks, sewerage and waste treatment facilities.

As a utility service provider, LWB is responsible for the provision of water supply services to the City of Lilongwe and surrounding areas designated as its supply area. LWB customers include domestic, institutional, industrial as well as commercial.
