Current UNHCR Egypt Associate Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Officer and Former Supervisory Refugee Officer, Refugee Officer, and Asylum Officer with USCIS. Received highest rating available on annual performance appraisals. Also received USCIS Directors' Award in 2016. More than 10 years of professional experience, primarily in refugee services. Served as an AmeriCorps member in Houston, Texas from 2017-2018, helping low-income homeowners recover from Hurricane Harvey. Worked with St. Andrew's Refugee Services in Cairo, Egypt, first with their Unaccompanied Children and Youth Program, then with their Community Outreach Department. During this time I was elected to lead the group of staff representatives to StARS management and also created multiple training sessions, including sessions on gender-based violence, trauma-informed organizations, time management, and others. Studied at University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration as part of the Global Social Development Practice program of study. Master's Degree from American University's School of International Service in International Peace and Conflict Resolution with a focus on human rights in the Middle East. Background primarily in human rights and refugee issues in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Great Lakes region of Africa. Particular areas of interest include: human rights in the Middle East and North Africa, refugees and migration, children's rights, minority rights. Interested in international humanitarian organizations, particularly refugee-related organizations.
