About Brender Willmott

I am currently employed by Cornwall College and Falmouth Marine School as the course manager for the FdSc Operational Yacht Science - based on he Isle of Wight and online. It's a fantastic course intrinsically linked to the Superyacht Cadetship run by UKSA on the Isle of Wight. This course offers students the opportunity to complete a foundation degree alongside an array of professional sailing qualifications and time and experience at sea. Students complete the first year of the course in six months in time to take up posts over the sailing season in the mediterranean and have amazing support from the team to help them with the crew agencies and getting into employment. I was seconded part-time to the Your Shore Beach Rangers project and developed employability training courses and packages that were delivered in schools and across the community in Cornwall. This involved developing training programmes for young people aged 11 - 24 that would enhance their employability and life skills using the marine environment as a motivator and encouraging engagement with that environment in a positive way for both themselves and the environment. I was extremely proud to have won an award from the Worshipful Company of Educators for Inspirational Educator of the Year for my work with the Beach Rangers Academy. I am still very proud of my time time running and teaching on the FdSc Surf Science and Technology and have validating new degree level courses in Coastal Safety Management, Marine Sport Science and Surf Enterprise. My students have run the English National Surfing Championships and Surfaced Pro events in conjunction with the SE and UKPST and after a hugely successful event had a massive 100K reach on FB! The second years have also run highly successful conferences about sustainability in the surf industry across social, economic, environmental and developmental areas. I was corporate lead for Professional Employability Skills Development received a Lifetime Achievement awards for my work with students and employability and events.
