About Guy Potter

I am a Crisis Recovery Worker at CPSL Mind, where I provide pro-active and empathic support to people in acute moments of crisis, by telephone, video call, or face-to-face. I have a great deal of safeguarding responsibility, as well as writing confidential notes and reports to inform mental health services of the outcomes of our interventions. This is challenging but powerfully rewarding work that enables me to connect and help people when they feel unable to move forward. I am also in the final year of training to become a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor at the University of Cambridge, and I aim to meet the requirements for qualification by July 2023. I have accrued over 150 hours of counselling experience at Saffron Walden County High School, where I worked with a wide range of clients from 12 to 18 years old. I learned how to work to my strengths, build rapport, and use creative art-based interventions to support the clients' needs. I am currently looking for opportunities to continue my professional development post qualification, either in placements or paid work. My previous experience in the hospitality industry for two decades has given me a valuable perspective and skillset as a therapist. I have developed an ability to put myself in the shoes of others, anticipate their experience, and convey warmth, approachability, and understanding. These are the same capacities that serve me well in my current and future roles in mental health. I am passionate about helping people improve their wellbeing and achieve their goals.
