About Malik Purvis
I am practicing artist and educator with the goal of engaging deeply within the community to increase the viability of being an artist as a minority. I also want to encourage other minority and marginalized groups to engage in the therapeutic realm of art making. Additionally as someone that publicly discloses his mental illness both in his work and in my research I want to find a way to reasonably end the large amount of discrimination and stigma levied against the mentally ill in America and provide them a visual language to be encouraged and taken seriously. As such, I've worked in both the arts and education realm in order to push my career forward so that I might engage with both of these issues both internally and externally.
