About Monisha Alam

A highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with diverse expertise in environmental engineering, Monisha is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Alberta (UofA) with the prestigious Post Graduate Research Fellowship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Monisha is also the recipient of the President's Doctoral Prize of Distinction at UofA as a recognition of her outstanding academic and research achievement. Her research area focuses on the waste-to-energy techniques for producing cleaner biogas and waste diversion from landfills. Through her environmental research career, Monisha wants to create a positive impact on the society and the environment by reducing the greenhouse gas effect through utilizing cleaner energy sources. Monisha completed a part of her PhD program at the University of Toronto in the transportation and air quality research group, where she worked on sustainable transportation planning and emission modelling for effective mitigation of climate change and air quality impact of traffic operations. Monisha completed her MSc at the University of Alberta (UofA), and worked as a Research Assistant for more than 2.5 years, and successfully contributed to industrial emission control projects of Ford Motor Company. Her academic excellence & outstanding research were recognized through several major federal and institutional scholarships, including the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship. While serving as a Research Scientist in Public Health Division at UofA, she won the Mitacs research grant as a successful Under 30 engineering professional contributing to innovative research tools for data management.
