About Rachel Ocallaghan

I graduated from UCC in 2020 with a BA in Geography and Economics. I spent two years completing my Masters in Planning and Sustainable Development in UCC. This course has assisted in expanding my skillset and furthering my knowledge in the planning domain. The modules on offer covered a broad set of topics ranging from housing, social change and community needs to looking at spatial planning in the rural context as well as urban and metropolitan regions. Further to this, the planning and design for built heritage, urban design and place-making and skills in development management, plan-making and forward planning and information and engagement were all part and parcel of the MPlan. I conducted a piece of research during my final semester in the Masters which was based around the investigation of the planning techniques which determine the outcomes of one-off rural housing on the Dingle Peninsula. This has ultimately enhanced my research skills. I have been extremely lucky to gain experience in both heritage and planning sectors in the local authority in Cork County. I am currently working in the Development Management Sector of Here, I am prepping for pre-planning enquiries, assessing planning applications & compiling reports for Section 5 Declaration’s, S254 Licences, Planning Search’s & Compliance.
