About Sandra Heusel

After receiving a BA in Psychology from the University of Victoria, I worked as a Special Education Assistant with the Vancouver School Board. I also volunteered and tutored students with learning differences through the Learning Disabilities Association in Vancouver for four years. I then went on to receive a teaching certificate in elementary education from Simon Fraser University and worked as a resource teacher for the Vancouver School Board for five years, during which time I received my Diploma in Special Education from UBC. Over the past 25 years, through my work with Howard Eaton as an Assessment Manager and self advocacy trainer at Eaton Educational Group and as a founding member of Eaton Arrowsmith Academy, with locations in Vancouver, Redmond and online, I have had the opportunity to help many children and adults begin the life changing journeys that occur when we strengthen our cognitive capacity. Watching our students build their ability to learn and become more independent, confident and capable individuals is truly a joy. My roles have included Arrowsmith Program cognitive teacher, head teacher, Marketing and Communications Director and Admissions Director. I am currently Eaton Arrowsmith Academy's Advancement Director. This role has enabled me to introduce this life changing work to many families and professionals in the field of education and neuroscience and to remain connected with alumni who are dedicated to ensuring EAA remains a thriving community with each passing year. I thoroughly enjoy connecting with our community in order to share my knowledge of our wonderful schools and online programs and to create partnerships with those whose common goal is the independent future of children and adults with neurodiverse learning styles. I've also had the opportunity to organize the Neuroplasticity and Education: Strengthening the Connection conference for three consecutive years. Each year we were joined by 800 educators, psychologists, parents, and others interested in in the power the the brain has to change as we listened to leaders in the field of education and neuroscience. One year, along with a fantastic parent group, I organized the Dare to Dream fundraising gala as a follow up event, and raised capital for research on the Arrowsmith Program. When I am not at the schools I love spending time with my husband and two children. I enjoy reading, cooking, volunteering for my son's swim team, being physically active and connecting with good friends.
