Transnational Red Sea Center
The Transnational Red Sea Center is a scientific research center hosted at Ecole Polytechnique fédérale in Lausanne (EPFL). Created with the official support of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, its core mission is to bridge Science & Diplomacy in order to study and preserve the corals of the Red Sea, capitalizing on Switzerland’s neutrality, its longstanding tradition of promoting dialogue and its reputation for scientific excellence. The Red Sea appears to be the last refuge on Earth for corals, reefs of the Red Sea having demonstrated an exceptional resistance to climate change thanks to their unique evolution in the Red Sea system, while corals elsewhere in the world are facing mass extinction due to the rise of sea temperature and other sources of destruction caused by human activity. The ambition of the Center is to unite scientists from the eight littoral countries of the Red Sea and drive collaborations among regional stakeholders, while connecting at the highest political level as well as the civil society to promote preservation policies. In a long term vision, it aims to pave the way for future technological applications potentially enabling to rehabilitate reefs worldwide.

Well-Being In School In Switzerland Wesir
Well-being in school contributes to student engagement, enhances classroom learning processes, supports the achievement of educational goals at school and can be an important source of positive development for adolescents. However, adolescents often experience significant drops in their school learning enjoyment and their disengagement from school increases. In the three-year project WESIR, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, we are therefore investigating the question of what contributes to well-being in school, how this can be specifically promoted and how a culture of well-being can be established in school, from grade 7 (grade 9 HarmoS) in Switzerland.

Competence Centre Design & Management - Hslu
The Competence Centre Design & Management is a research group part of the Lucerne School of Art and Design at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Its basic and applied research is dedicated to the study of human-centred design in the context of organizational and societal change, transformation and management. Our strength is to help organizations understand how they go about designing for human experiences and human interactions. We realign organizations around people, thus supporting needed transformations to generate new possibilities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to realize a desirable Digital Transformation. In this process, we develop organizational design capabilities through the art of design, its principles, processes and methods. Our experts are highly trained design researchers who are internationally and nationally recognized for their contribution to design practice, design education and design research. They are experienced in co-designing with citizens, business people, civil servants, and policy makers on the local, national and international level. Besides contributing to the discipline through peer-reviewed publications, they continuously engage with design researchers and design practitioners on projects. Our projects target the future and build on our combined expertise, including ethnographic research, visual and interaction design, service design, product design, speculative design, information design, communication design, storytelling, and design semantics. We open paths for students in our BA and MA programs to engage in design research projects careers. Our aim is to generate new possibilities for innovative yet concrete solutions to address complex and wicked situations that require the involvement of business, civil society and government. Our overall aim is to enhance the design capability of those in charge of giving shape to our future products and services in the public and private sector.

We are developing digital studies across domains in the arts, humanities and social sciences, fostering an energetic and interdisciplinary community of practice of nearly 80 researchers across our two institutions. Our mission is to stimulate disciplinary innovation by providing resources for scientific engagement; to contribute to the definition of public policies by engaging with local and global discussions on the intended and unintended consequences of technology; and to reach out to new audiences in the arts, humanities and social sciences to preserve our cultural heritage and advance our democracy. Because we bridge institutions, disciplines and domains, we encourage all forms of inquiry, methods and technologies that will advance knowledge in its many forms, for science and for society.
