Eth Laboratory For Nanometallurgy

The focus of our research is size effects in materials, which means how materials properties change as a function of the external length scale. The aim is the identification of the size that optimizes a specific materials property, such as yield or fracture strength, toughness, and recently also electronic properties such as color, carrier mobility and band gap engineering. Our traditional competences originate from mechanical properties and alloy development, but in the past couple of years we have extended our knowledge into functional properties and all materials classes. Recently, we also have been targeting materials creation from the bottom-up with the aim of synthesizing complex 3D gradient structures on the micrometer and nanometer length scale that benefit from the identified optimal length scale.

Wir bringen Geschichte und Geschichten aus dem Kloster Muri ans Licht und vermitteln diese an ein interessiertes Publikum.

Heg Finance Club

HEG Finance Club is a student association at the Geneva School of Business Administration (Haute école de gestion de Genève) founded in 2014. Our main objective is to promote awareness and knowledge of the world of finance by bringing together passionate and motivated students to allow them to share ideas, improve their analytical and presentation skills as well as grow their professional network. The club is built around “desks” each covering a specific asset class. Each team is responsible for following the developments in their respective markets, making investment proposals for the club’s virtual portfolio and providing trainings on their asset class to the other members. Currently, the Equities, Forex and Commodities desks are active and we are planning to open the Fixed Income desk as we grow and recruit new members. The club’s activities are coordinated by the Committee, composed of the President, the Vice President, the Administrator and the Portfolio Manager who are responsible for the association’s development. Our virtual portfolio with a starting capital of USD is one of the main means to put our skills to practice and measure our ideas’ success. The rationale, targets and risk levels of every new position are presented and defended during the club’s meetings before it is added to the portfolio. With the help of a proprietary tool developed by the club, the Portfolio Manager constantly monitors the positions’ performance to take corrective actions if needed.

SWICE is a research project funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE, in the framework of the SWEET programme (Call 1-2021). The project aims to experiment and implement sustainable social change practices based on less energy-intensive behaviours through carefully co-designed interventions on the physical environment taking place in daily living, working and leisure. While people and socio-material dynamics are considered the main “agents of change” of the energy transition, three main “sectors of change” are identified in terms of impact on energy demand and supply management: the built environment, open spaces and mobility. SWICE is coordinated by EPFL and brings together a large consortium of research, support and implementation partners.

Swiss Fire Protection Research & Development Ag

The Pressurized Instant Foam Fire Protection System (or Pi Foam in short) is a fully automatic tank-firefighting technology that can reliably extinguish any storage-tank fire in three minutes, irrespective of the tank’s size or weather conditions. It requires no water network, electricity or firefighting crews. The system extinguishes fires using a special compressed foam that is stored in a pressurized vessel. Thanks to the massive pressure and a unique injection method, it is capable of introducing immense quantities of foam into the burning tank. Our system is somewhat less expensive to install than other fixed systems, and its maintenance costs are significantly lower than any similar technology on the market. It is also more reliable than traditional tank-fire protection systems. The system reliably extinguishes fires on tanks with a diameter greater than 40 meters, preventing the flames from damaging the tank, its contents and the company’s reputation. We advertise the Pi Foam System as a tank-firefighting technology, but it is also capable of protecting the dike and other technological areas. It can serve as an all-purpose fire-protection system and prevent billions of dollars in damage. As we are a small engineering firm, we are looking partners who have the capabilities, capacities and connections to introduce this system to their region. Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a central element of the Swiss education system and has recently gained considerable importance in international cooperation. FoBBIZ was founded with the aim of promoting active exchange between these two domains. On the one hand, the VET expertise of Swiss players can be made internationally fruitful, and on the other hand, Swiss VET can also benefit greatly from international trends and developments. In order to enable a rich discussion, FoBBIZ takes a thematically broad view of VET, is interested in formal VET (basic VET and higher VET) as well as in continuing VET, in company training but also in training within the framework of labour market measures in different geographical contexts. Equally, it integrates practical and scientific perspectives and discusses trends and future developments.
