The main objective of DESUS is to build a novel and comprehensive database of Greek start-ups, and use quantitative (financial) and qualitative (non-financial) information as well as the preference information of decision-makers to develop a multi-criteria judgmental rating model able to handle start-ups’ uncertainty and estimate the probability of obtaining finance, which will then provide the basis for the development of an online decision support system (DSS) The research project is implemented in the framework of H.F.R.I. call “3rd Call for H.F.R.I.’s Research Projects to Support Faculty Members & Researchers” (H.F.R.I. Project Number: 23669).

Economics Of Natural Resources And The Environment
The Laboratory of Operations Research in the Department of Economics of the School of Economics and Business at the University of Thessaly annually organizes successfully the ENVECON Conference series since 2014. Now, the 10th Anniversary ENVECON Conference will be organized in the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly. The Conference will take place on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 December 2024 and will be either with physical presence in Volos (at the premises of the Department of Economics at Matsaggou Building Volos, Greece) OR Online. The scope of the conference is to present the main issues that concern the Economics of Natural Resources and the Environment with emphasis on the various environmental problems and their management and solution policies. Its aim is to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of environmental research through the exchange of views and experiences of researchers from different scientific fields and the finding of common components of research approaches. In this anniversary conference emphasis will be given to the findings of 10 years of experience of interdisciplinary meetings and constructive discussions in the many and important sessions of ENVECON. Health Promotion & Nutrition Counseling Research Group
Within the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, Prof. Yannis Manios is leading the “Nutritional Assessment, Counselling & Health Promotion” research group, one of the most active and recognized research groups of the University. Our group consists of Academics and Research Fellows from various and diverse scientific background (including nutritionists, medical doctors, molecular biologists, omics experts, psychologists, sociologists, environmental scientists, exercise physiologists, computer engineers and informatics experts, biostatisticians and epidemiologists) providing the ideal scheme for: studying dietary patterns and human behaviours; tackling lifestyle- and diet-related chronic diseases across the lifespan; and promoting active and healthy living, including the use of intelligent and personalised digital solutions. The synthesis and expertise of our group has provided the basis for research collaboration with the food industry (e.g. Kellogg’s, FrieslandCampina), as well as with governmental and non-governmental agencies (e.g. Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Joint Research Centre) on issues related to the development and implementation of health promotion and nutrition policies. Furthermore, over the past 20 years our group has been/is involved in various multicentre EU and National funded dietary, lifestyle and health promotion projects, including the coordination of three EU-funded projects. Through all these research projects and collaborations, our group has obtained access to large cohort data as well as a large bio-bank of human biological samples for ongoing research purposes.

The main research objective of the Behavioral Engineering & Analytics for Marketing Management (BEAMM) lab is to understand and predict individuals' decisions and behavior as well as to foster behavior change. The goal through its research activity is to contribute and encourage individuals to make decisions to improve their living, to support the development of policies that favor the choice of these decisions, and thus to contribute to a better society by sustainable development. Social Media Laboratory Aristotle University Of Thessaloniki
The Social Media Lab is an interdisciplinary research laboratory at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (GR). The Laboratory aims at investigating how people think, feel, act, and communicate online. Based on an interdisciplinary approach, we study online communication in the fields of health communication (e.g. health campaigns), interpersonal and social communication (e.g. formation and change of interpersonal and social relationships), public opinion (e.g. perception and use of new media), political communication (e.g. deliberation, influence), sports and athletics, culture and education (e.g. formation and attitude change, digital literacy). We especially focus on how the use of social media and other online technologies can change communication and on the social, psychological, economic and technological consequences of these changes. The mission of the Social Media Lab is to meet the learning requirements in the graduate and postgraduate programmes of the School of Journalism and Media Communications, to develop research activity in all aspects of Web Communication and to contribute to studies that are conducted by researchers across the AUTh as well as other institutions, to invite distinguished scientists, to organise and host educational seminars, conferences, meetings and talks addressed to the students of the School, the staff and the research community, to publish scientific articles, reports and collections that relate to the research activity of the lab, to promote the cooperation with other domestic or foreign academic institutions and research centres, to collaborate with the public sector bodies related to our scientific area and, finally, participate in research programmes launched by the public, private and national organisations.

The mission of the Institute of Oceanography (IO) is to explore, describe, and understand the functioning of marine systems, as well as to perform long-term monitoring, and forecasting of various processes through interdisciplinary research. This also includes the physical boundaries between the hydrosphere and the atmosphere, the coastal zone and the deep basins, the seabed and below. Prevent
It is well-established that the Mediterranean is a climate change hot spot that warms faster than the global mean rates and the frequency of extremes increases. Moreover, climate models often fail to provide sufficient skill in predicting extremes. Extremes are of utmost importance for many socio-economic sectors and activities, including human health, agriculture and water resource management, ecology, and tourism. Most of these activities are dominant drivers of the Mediterranean macro- and micro-economy. The overall objective of PREVENT is to improve the predictability of impact-relevant extremes in the Mediterranean region on timescales from seasonal to decadal using state-of-the-art dynamical, statistical, and machine learning methods. Additionally, PREVENT brings together experts in different disciplines and geographical regions for a comprehensive study of impact-relevant climate extremes in the Mediterranean with the goal to improve their seasonal and decadal predictions in a changing climate. PREVENT intent to 1. Define for local climate extreme hotspot regions, including major urban centers in the Mediterranean. Provide new management tools that can be used in many domains, to guide and direct processes, support monitoring activities, and increase organizational efficiency 3. Develop awareness and competencies by enabling policymakers, industry, farmers, and other producers to understand, promote and practice the inclusion of seasonal and decadal data in their project management. PREVENT has a small flexible consortium consisting of colleagues with great experience in the Mediterranean climate and especially the analysis of extreme climate events and the use of impact models. One of the main PREVENT ambitions is to enhance gender balance in the coordination of EU-funded research programs and give young researchers the opportunity to participate as leaders in the work packages by providing fresh new ideas for research.

Biovalue Project
The approach of BIOVALUE project is to set-up a holistic perspective, under the “multi-actor” approach, to analyse the link between biodiversity, the agro-food value chain agents, the environment, consumer food preferences and health. By employing a bottom-up vertical approach to develop the BIOVALUE TOOL, a dynamic and customizable agri-food value chain vis-a-vis biodiversity analysis tool, the proposal tries to introduce, model, evaluate, breed, produce and spread specifically selected genetically diverse underutilized crops (cereals, legumes, leafy and fruity vegetables) and develop final marketable, certified and labelled culinary products incorporating them (dish recipes and processed foodstuff), that enhance agro-biodiversity to the applied agro-ecosystems and appeal to the consumers, securing their future market performance and concurrently, their cultivation viability. Moreover, in a modelled user-friendly ready-to-work framework, the project will produce a set of key performance indicators destined to measure policy quality and impact, environmental evolution and compliance with regulations of introducing underutilized, genetically diverse crops to the value chain and are by design expandable to further enhance biodiversity in the value chain. Ultimately, this expanding nature, is highlighted by the complimentary effects of BIOVALUE processed and unprocessed final food products and dishes such as low energy consumption, environmental cultivation resiliency to marginal landscapes and future climate, as well as nutritional and health benefits. Incorporating the market power in the whole approach, the proposal can lead towards self-supported sustainability of biodiversity in the future.

Resting on two of the main pillars of the Greek economy, i.e. the agri-food sector and the tourism and leisure sector, the Center of Excellence in Food, Tourism & Leisure promotes the intellectual, pedagogical and outreach infrastructure necessary to make Greece a leading academic innovator in these vital sectors. Through fostering innovative research, teaching, and public outreach in the areas of food, tourism and leisure by means of targeted academic programs, fellowships, internships, lectures, policy papers, media productions, symposia and conferences, the CoEFTL seeks to help propel Greece’s economic growth. The CoEFTL provides a forum for the interchange of ideas between agri-food and tourism researchers, educators, managers and policymakers from a perspective that is multi-disciplinary and international. Among other unique roles, the CoEFTL identifies emerging issues and opportunities that will influence future agri-food, tourism and leisure research, education, management and policy.
